Leader/Parent
Resources
We must have at least two leaders per Den
as part of the TWO deep leader philosophy of the Boy Scouts of America. If
you are interested in becoming a leader for your boys Den, please contact
the CubMaster. To become a "Trained" leader there are specific
courses taught in our area that will help you along the way. There are
several useful sites to help the leader schedule and manage the Den.
Another great resource is the District Roundtable meeting. This generally
occurs the first Thursday of Each Month. Parents and leaders are welcome
to attend this meeting. It is a great resource for speaking with
experienced leaders and getting new ideas. Try to attend if you can.
Arapahoe
District Roundtable
When: Arapahoe
District Roundtables are scheduled the 1st Thursday of each month at the
LDS church off Timberline Road, Lone Tree, Colorado. Roundtables
begin promptly at 7:00pm and end at approximately 8:30pm.
Where: Directions:
Highlands Ranch Parkway east to University/Lincoln, east on Lincoln to
Quebec (Post Office), turn left (north) on Quebec to first street on right
(Timberline), right on Timberline and then go about 1/2 mile to stop sign.
The LDS Church is on the left at the stop sign. Cub Scout Roundtable
is in the south side of the gymnasium, Boy Scouts are in the north side of
the gym.
Always try to wear
your Cub Scout Leader uniform whenever you go to Roundtable! For the latest
ideas and information that will help your Den meetings, you can always go
to the Arapahoe District Roundtable web page at: http://www.arapahoedistrict.org/ .
Also, the latest Roundtable Schedule and Program Helps guide are available
for viewing and download from the site...Check them out!
Monthly Pack Committee Meeting
Make sure you (All leaders and Parents) are
attending the monthly Committee Meeting (Monday evening 7 to 8 pm)
following the roundtable meeting (see the Welcome
page for more detail). New information is passed out at
this meeting, and decisions that may affect YOU will be made. Remember,
this meeting is open to all Parents and Den Leaders. We can always use new
leaders so if you are interested contact the CubMaster.
Also, make sure
you are receiving (and reading!) Scouting magazine. Every registered
leader receives this magazine. If you're not getting it, you're not
registered as a leader with the council, and you need to contact the Committee
Chairperson right away!

Scout
Leader Training
EVERY
SCOUT DESERVES A TRAINED LEADER
Be the best youth serving volunteer you can be!
"Be Trained"
There
are three steps to the Scout Leader Training process. In
order to be considered fully "trained", a Cub Scout Leader must
complete New Leader Essentials and Cub Scout Leader Specific Training. All registered leaders in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts must also
complete Youth Protection Training which is included with New Leader
Essentials but is renewed at least every 3 years by ALL leaders..
Youth
Protection Training: All
registered leaders must attend this training. Certification must be
updated every 3 years. The training is generally offered monthly by
the Arapahoe District and Denver Area Council. Click on this
link to be taken to the National Council Website's "Guide
to Safe Scouting".
New
Leader Essentials: This
is training for all new Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout and Venture
Leaders. Topics featured
include; Personal goals, Youth Growth and Development, How you as a Leader
fit into your unit and your district, Where to find help and support, Unit
and District Finances, Safe Scouting, and Scouting Transitions.
Cub
Scout Leader Specific Trainings: These
are separate training sessions that feature discussions on issues specific
to Cub Scout Pack Leadership, including specific
leader training covering the Tiger, Wolf/Bear, Webelos, and Cubmaster/Committee
positions and responsibilities.
POW
WOW:
A fun event with great program ideas for
all parents
and leaders.
BALOO
(Basic Leader Outdoor Orientation): Cub
Scout leaders, Webelos Leaders, and any parents interested in helping
their Pack with planning and execution of outdoor events such as camping
should attend this training.
Introduction
to Outdoor Leader Skills Training: This
Training is is offered twice
per year to any Webelos leader, or Bear den leader who will be continuing
on as a Webelos leader. Other leaders and even parents are welcome too.
You will learn details about and fun activities for the four Outdoor
Activity pins (Naturalist, Forester, Geologist and Outdoorsman), plus
games, skills, knots, first aid, camping methods and much, much more.
You will camp out in a tent
(yours or a borrowed one), make three meals (food and assistance provided)

full of ideas to take home with you!
